Everyone needs to play up their shape. There are tricks of the trade to flatter your body type. Here are some suggestions:
1. Consider the fabric-cotton or wool can flatter your figure and hang smooth next to your body. Some lycra or spandex is good for some stretch and "give" for comfort and ease. Chiffons can conceal or highlight.
2. Find the best fit-clothing that is too tight or too loose is NOT flattering. When in doubt, go for a more loose fit rather than too tight. Focus on the fit on your hips and thighs when choosing bottoms, and shoulders when it comes to tops. I hate to see women wear their clothes so tight that it pulls the fabric horizontally and looks terrible.
3. Think proportion-if you have a straight, tailored skirt then you can go for a more flowy top. If you have a snug top then go for a flowy skirt. Do NOT put flowy with flowy or tight with tight! Outfits that are blousy on the top and bottom with make you look bigger.
4. Use color and print strategically-dark tones/hues camouflage certain body parts but you don't want to dress like you are always going to a funeral. A larger pattern looks best on a fuller figure. A small print goes best on petite frames.
5. Finish with the right accessories-high heels or nude colored pumps elongate your look. A belt can accentuate your waist. Earrings and necklaces and scarves can tie together your look for a complete look.
