Pet Peeves for Fashion at Church

I have some major pet peeves when it comes to fashion and dressing for Church.  Here they are:
1.  Flip Flops-are we still at the beach?
2.  Wet Or Greasy Hair-no need to prepare ourselves for worship!?
3.  Jean Skirts-how casual can we get here?
4.  Skin Tight T-Shirts-they call them "Mod Bod"'s but I'm not so sure they are that modest...have you seen how tight those puppies are worn?
5.  Sandals on a Cold/Wet Day-how inappropriate!
6.  Gray, Ugly Hair-have you heard about the inexpensive hair colors you can get ANYWHERE for under $6.00?  Your dog could follow those simple instructions on how to color your hair!
7.  Skirts or  Dresses With Knee High's-how seriously ugly is that?
8.  Shorts, Pants, Beach Hats, Golf Shirts, etc...need I say anymore?
9.  Prom Dresses-along with the matching corsage...how tacky and inappropriate!  (And distracting)
10. Wrinkled Shirts on Men and Boys-how much effort does it take to heat up an iron?

Body Language

Your body sends a powerful message about your intentions.  Here are a few gestures that you can use to make the right kind of first impression.
1.  SMILE-is the quickest way to put someone at ease.  You can spot a happy smile from a football field away.  When you smile, people smile back and that instantly puts them at ease and makes everyone feels better. Practice smiling every day!  You'll be surprised at the results.
2.  Take Command- when you need people to notice what you are saying, stand up.  Perch yourself up if you are sitting down. Don't slouch!
3.  Hit Your Mark- punctuate your most important point, raise your eyebrows.
4.  Cross It Off-it you are faced with a tricky problem try folding your arms.  Studies have shown that crossing your arms helps you find a solution to a problem.
5.  Stand Up-if you need extra confidence stand up with your legs apart and your hands on your hips.  Hold that pose for 2 minutes.  You will feel more important.
6.  Watch Your Feet-if you want to learn the truth look at someone's feet.  If someone else's feet are pointing away, then they are done with your conversation.
7.  Shoulder It-shoulders are very expressive.
8.  Hand Gestures-reveal a great deal.  If you touch your heart, it means that you are so grateful.  If a person uses their hands a lot when they talk, that means they are trying to really express themselves.

Try A New Look

Now is the time to reinvent your look.  You can switch from a wavy locks to a polished up-do.  It can be switching your nail polish to a deep wine from a coral color.  Here are some ideas:
1.  Drop the lip gloss and wear real lip stick.
2.  Add mega volume.  Blow dry your hair with Paul Mitchell's volumizing spray.
3.  Straighten your hair and wear it sleek in a bun or pony tail.
4.  Get catty.  Draw a cat eye with liquid eye liner.
5.  Put the focus on your eye brows.  They are BIG this season.  Pencil them in with powder and a flat brush.
6.  Paint your nails in a wild color...navy, purple, grey...

Being Positive in a Negative World

Sometimes we have to force ourselves to SMILE and be happy when everything seems down and out.  Being positive in a negative world can be hard but it can be done.  Here are a few suggestions:
1.  Righteousness does NOT mean perfection.  All we can strive for is to choose the right.  That does not mean that we will always achieve perfection.  Be happy in just trying to do the right thing.
2.  Keep  trying anyway.  Don't ever give up!  Hold your head up high and say, "No one will defeat me!"
3.  Keep your focus on God.  He will show you the way and lead you by thy hand.
4.  Pleasing God is all that matters.  Keeping His holy commandments is key.
5.  Find and remember the JOY in your life.
6.  Look for God's hand in your life every day and record it in a journal.
